Autumn Planting! Now is the time to act, whilst you can remember where those blank spots were in the garden. For late summer colour plant one or two viticella types.
Looking good right now (October/November) in our garden is C. terniflora. This has a wonderful perfume as well as masses of small white flowers. And of course there is the yellow flowered and well scented species - rehderiana. There's always a clematis in flower somewhere!

August- Estonia - the home of many good clematis.
As part of our aim to keep in touch with the newest and best developments in clematis breeding Ruth and Jon have been to the International Clematis Society meeting in Estonia. As well as visiting the famous Kivistik Clematis Farm, we saw many other excellent gardens. We also met with clematis breeders and growers from around the world, with 12 countries represented.

July - Once again we have received a Silver-Gilt Medal from the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) for our exhibit of Clematis.
This was at the Hampton Court Palace Flower Show. The display was much admired by the public and our new introductions were very popular.
We are now back at the nursery and our next main event is an RHS Partner Nursery Event on 30th July.

June - At Chelsea Flower Show in May we were awarded a Silver-Gilt Medal (one down from a Gold). This is the fourth year in succession that we have had the same award.
We were very pleased with the stand and had many compliments on the display.

We now have some of the Patio Clematis available. These were featured at Chelsea and on television with the breeder and introducer, Raymond Evison.
We hope to add these to our on-line catalogue soon. In the meantime we can take orders by telephone or e-mail, or you can collect from the nursery - but ring first to book them!

May 2005 - Sunshine and showers - what more does your garden need?
MORE CLEMATIS of course!
Seriously though, now is a good time to find a clematis to fill a gap or add to those wonderful spring flowering shrubs that you are enjoying now.
Once the early flush of flowers have faded from our gardens, we need something to follow on. There are so many way to use clematis for late summer interest - see our Viticella Group page in the secure on-line ordering section.
Or you could go for yellow - see the Tangutica Group page.

Monday 11th April
Milder weather and even some sunshine here has sent the clematis in the garden into top gear. New growth is appearing from the base of all the herbaceous clematis and the partridges and rabbits are enjoying them no end!
Now is the time to guard against pests that nibble the soft young growth. Slugs and snails too can be a problem - see our 'How to Grow' page. And don't forget to have a few split rings in your pocket at all times, to secure that new growth and prevent damage by strong winds or heavy rain.

Monday 4th April 2005
Later this week, on Friday 8th and Saturday 9th we shall be joining in a horticultural event at The Forum in Norwich City Centre. Along with a number of other local specialist nurseries we shall be there to give advice and guidance to the public, as well as selling a small selection of the 350 varieties we have available at the nursery.
Come along and see some excellent plants and the people that actually know them and grow them!

Monday 21st March
SPRING ! Despite the cold wet weather here on Sunday we pruned most of our remaining clematis, roses and wisteria.
The next job will be feeding. Not too much nitrogen just yet - a handfull of bonemeal will do and if you can follow that with a mulch of manure, then that will slowly add the necessary nitrogen over the coming months.
New Zealand types in pots will be needing more water now ready for that magnificent display of flowers in May, just make sure they drain well and all should be well.

Monday 14th March
At last the sun shines and it feels like spring!
Inside the polytunnels and out in the garden the clematis are now making new shoots and some of the Atragene Group will soon be showing their flower buds.
These are the early spring flowering types that have such attractive bell shaped flowers and a great range of colours in all shades of blue, pink and white.
The fine weather has enabled us to get into the garden and tidy up. Now is the time to do your clematis pruning of the summer flowering types - Pruning types `Light` (Group 2) and `Hard` (Group 3). For more guidance you can see our Clematis Care Guide for guidance - How to Grow Clematis

Monday 7th March
Here in Norfolk the snow is going, albeit rather slowly. As we are now into March it really is time to get out there and prune the old growth from last year away from those clematis that need it.
If you need to refresh your memory on pruning and cannot get to one of our demonstrations at the nursery, you can see our Clematis Care Guide for guidance - How to Grow Clematis

As the bad weather has continued, we will add two more dates for Pruning Demonstratioons this year. We will hold these on FRIDAY 11th March & SATURDAY 12th March, both at 11:00am.

We will post more detailed information if this situation changes during the week.
Details of these events are on our News and Events Page - News, Shows & Events

Friday 4th March
At last we have snow! After a proper frost it started to snow at 7:15 this morning and is laying. However at present the road is passable and the forecast is for a rapid thaw later. As before we are prepared to give a demonstration to anyone who attends, using plants under cover in our ploytunnels if the snow makes it difficult to see things in the garden.

Thursday 3rd March.
The weather this morning is much the same as the last week, a few light flurries of snow and the roads are clear. At present (8.00am) the sun is shining and the wind has dropped.
We will go ahead with today's demonstration as planned as the ground is quite clear and we can use the polytunnels for shelter if a shower comes by.
We also expect to hold tomorrow's demonstration as planned at 11.00am.

Monday 28th February.
This week we will hold two additional Pruning Demonstrations, when we hope the weather will be better than last week!

As before we will post updates if the weather becomes difficult during the week

Saturday 26th February.
Today the snow has all but gone and we intend to hold our pruning demonstration as planned.
There are two events today - one at 11.00am and the second at 2.00pm.

Due to the recent bad weather, we have extended our dates to include Thursday 3rd and Friday 4th March, both at 11am.

We will post more detailed information if this situation changes during the week.
